One Year in Waco: Community, Connection, and Hope

It’s wild to think it’s been just over a year since we made the big move to Waco. And what we found here has been nothing short of incredible: real community, strong partnerships, and the kind of support that reminds us we’re right where we’re supposed to be.

Waco, You’ve Shown Up for Us
We’ve met some of the kindest humans through our partnerships with REACH Therapeutic Riding Center and WRS Athletic Club — both have truly embraced our mission and helped us feel at home. We’ve hosted donation-based yoga events all over town (including super fun rooftop classes at Dichotomy Coffee & Spirits) and took part in Amplify Austin to help spread the word.

I’ve also loved connecting with the climbing community through teaching yoga at Basin Climbing and Fitness. It’s been a joy getting to know folks there and sharing movement and mindfulness in such a unique space.

The people we’ve met — neighbors, business owners, climbers, horse lovers, yoga students, fellow animal nerds — they’ve welcomed us with open arms. We’ve made new friends, found new allies, and built relationships that we know will last.

Laying the Groundwork (Literally)
The next big step for Untamed Hope is finding land — 20 to 30 acres in McLennan or Falls County — to create our permanent sanctuary home. This is our dream: a space where animals can heal, thrive, and connect with the people who love them. A space that we can share with our community through education, training, enrichment, yoga and so much more.

We’ve made progress: we’ve secured a few small grants, are always learning (shoutout to the amazing Cardiac Health for Great Apes workshop at Cameron Park Zoo!), and we’re having exciting conversations about possible future collaborations. (We’re especially hopeful about teaming up with the Baylor University Bear Program — fingers crossed.)

But we’re still looking for those major donors and long-term supporters who can help make this dream a reality.

Hope is the Heartbeat of It All
This work can be challenging — emotionally, financially, logistically — but we keep going because of one thing: hope. Untamed Hope was built on the belief that healing is possible — for animals, for people, for all of us.

We’re still here. Still showing up. Still growing. And we’re just getting started.

Thank you to everyone who’s walked beside us this past year. Whether you donated, came to a class, hosted us, shared our mission, or simply believed in us — we feel it. And we’re so grateful.

With love,

Amy & the Untamed Hope troop
